Weekend Links + Options // Frock Files

What a whirlwind of a week! Isn’t that always the way it is before a big trip, though? Since I only see my friends and family back home once each year, I make a special effort to get a little more groomed before going home. My resolution to schedule self care is in effect – at my haircut on Wednesday, I took Sarah’s advice and scheduled my next haircut exactly eight weeks down the road.

Now we just have some last minute errands to run, a family birthday party to throw, and a bit of packing to do — and we’re off! To ring in a festive weekend, I’ve rounded up five fascinating links just for you.

Weekend Links

The moment you realize your mom went through exactly the same things you’re going through right now.

Adorable kids learning about charity in such a fun way! (Think: lemonade stand for the wintertime.)

European flash mobs are classier.

More options = more happiness?

Bourbon! Chocolate! Pecans!

P.S. See you back here on Monday for one last post before we jet! What are you up to this weekend?

Let’s Get Cozy

{a la}

Can you believe we’re already past the middle of September? The roads here are dotted in trees beginning to turn. In a few weeks’ time they’ll be in their full colorful glory. Back when I lived in the city and didn’t own a car, I would rent a Zipcar for an hour each day after the leaves turned red and gold and orange. I’d drive through the mansion-filled neighborhoods of Chestnut Hill and Newton, ogling those old Oaks and Maples. I look forward to this season all year — I’m in love with everything about it — and I wish that I could bring all of you here so we could have a big party filled with pumpkin-y goodness. In lieu of that, here are a few of my favorite links:

Remember Fraggle Rock? One of James’ best friends can’t remember the name of my blog because all that comes into her head is “Fraggle Frock”. It’s not hard to understand why, especially since that show was so addictive when we were kids. Those creatures are back (and they haven’t aged a bit!) in this adorable new music video by Ben Folds Five. This song is the perfect weekend pick-me-up!

It’s “apple” picking time. It’s the perfect time for apple decor, including these perfectly simple and super sweet cupcakes over at Pretty & Delectable. Curious about why I included those quotation marks? You’ve gotta visit the post to find out.

How to make date night even better. One little trick to improve the dinner & a movie combo. (And in case you missed it, here are my thoughts on the tradition of date night.)

Oh yes, Anne Hathaway could rule the world. Not only can the woman act, she can write, dance, and really sing. I mean, I know she’s sung a bit in the past but now she’s playing Fantine in the new Les Miserables film and she’s amazing. Check her out singing “I Dreamed a Dream” in this preview. It’s pretty cool that all the singing was recorded live, not in a studio. (I’m kind of a Les Mis nerd. I was the little girl who marched around singing “Castle on a Cloud” and “Who am I? 24601.” for a year)

A new weeknight standby recipe. So easy, rich, and delicious. We ate ours with Dreamfields Pasta, which is a great, low-glycemic option.

I hope you’ll come back and visit this week for a Bright Lights post with one of my favorite people in the world, a brand new style post, and more. Enjoy this last full week of September! xoxo
