Yes, we’re doing it all over again!

Why, hello there! Yes, it’s been a very long time. Sorry about that. The Hello Sessions was absolutely incredible–it surpassed all of our expectations, thanks largely to the people who helped us put it together and the people who showed up. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of people. In fact, they were so awesome that we immediately dove back into planning mode and have secured a date for our 2016 conference.

If you want to read more about the conference, you can read the blog post I wrote immediately afterward. Or you can check out one of these great posts:

“This particular group of creatives, entrepreneurs, writers, and artists all had something in common: communityconnection, and {thinking of a ‘c’ word because I am all about the alliteration} COMMITMENT. Everyone there was open, ready to share their story, ready to listen to yours, and ready to shake it all up.”  — Jayme, Holly and Flora (There’s also a fabulous cocktail recipe in this post)

“A hello is all it takes. Really, that’s it. Through our day of activities, everyone was gracious and open to meeting each other, even the shy ones.” – Maggie, Eat Boutique (Loads of amazing photos from our post-conference wine pairing dinner)

“I felt an incredible sense of community during The Hello Sessions conference on Friday, but also throughout the city. People were very friendly, and businesses seemed to be very collaborative.” – Sami Jo, Poor and Pretty

We’re about 98% certain of the location of our event and we’ll be working with brands on sponsorships in the next few months, but if you want first dibs on tickets definitely sign up for our newsletter! Melissa and I decided that 100 attendees was just about perfect, so we’re keeping it the same size in 2016.

Between my full-time job (and my 12+ hour/week commute), planning for The Hello Sessions, and life, I’m afraid Frock Files will remain somewhat neglected. But if you want to keep hearing from me, follow us on The Hello Sessions’ blog, where I’ll be writing just about every week, and on our Instagram feed, where I’m making every effort to post daily.

Big hugs,

Joy

Life Update: Yes, I’m alive!

Frock Files New Job Recap

Hello, friends! It’s true, despite the month-long silence, I really am still here. The first month in my new role came and went before I could catch my breath. It wasn’t an easy month–in fact, for a few days there, it was downright rough–but then someone reminded me that nothing would work unless I began to rely on myself and things became much sunnier. My brain has so many new wrinkles in it because I’m learning a TON. It feels like a switch turned on in my brain and I want to learn everything.

Here are three things that I’ve learned in the last month:

I love having a plan: By nature, I’m not a huge planner. But for my new role, I spend a lot of time preparing for action–making sure that I understand what my goals are, how I’m going to reach them, breaking it down nearly to the day (and sometimes to the hour). As a “Let’s try it and see what happens” person, I was at first alarmed by all this planning. Then, I saw how much easier it made my day-to-day work and I fell in love with it.

DOING is my steez: Yet, once those plans were made, I was beyond eager to implement the actions. It’s in the doing that I find my state of flow. I’m happiest on the days that I can look at the plan I made, see what I’ve done that day to get incrementally closer to the goal, and knock something off my to do list.

Time. Is. FLYING. As in: It’s JUNE? What?! The time issue really hit me last week when all of a sudden Melissa and I realized that it was time for tickets to go on sale for The Hello Sessions. This crazy, amazing dream that we’ve had for the past two years is a reality now, with actual attendees, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Thanks for sticking with me, and for all of you who have emailed to see how things are going. The fact of the matter is that things are pretty amazing. It’s summertime! I’m liking my new job! We’re healthy! (Even Kona!)

Now I’m just trying to figure out how to fit an extra 6 hours into the day. I’ll be focusing on time management over the next few weeks, and I’ll post my discoveries here on the blog.

No more disappearing. Promise.

Love, Joy

Tickets for The Hello Sessions

Do you know that feeling of disbelief that happens you’ve been planning something for so long that you can’t quite believe it’s arrived? That’s how Melissa and I are feeling about the fact that we’ll be opening up ticket sales for The Hello Sessions very, very soon.

In case you’ve missed our previous posts about The Hello Sessions, it’s a workshop-based conference that we’re hosting in Portland, OR this October. We always wanted a hands-on style conference, and we kept hoping for one in the Pacific Northwest. Instead of waiting around for it to happen, we created our dream conference, featuring some of the most inspiring creative minds we know, with the support of our awesome friends.

Since much of the conference will involve close interaction with our (super amazing) workshop leaders, we only have room for 150 attendees. We’ll be announcing ticket sales through our newsletter, so sign up here to get the word first. With such an incredible day of learning planned, we expect that tickets will go quickly.

Visit our website for more details on our workshop leaders, the day’s schedule, and our sponsors. We would love to see you there!

A HUGE thank you to Tan and Ryan of Squirrelly Minds for traveling to Portland to create this fantastic video for us during our announcement brunch!

You know that big announcement I’ve been hinting at for months? It’s time for the big reveal! This coming October 9th, Melissa and I will be putting on a small workshop-based conference called The Hello Sessions in Portland, Oregon!

We have lots and lots of details to share, but first we wanted to let you in on the big news. Our official announcement came a couple of weekends ago at brunch with some of our favorite Pacific Northwest bloggers, which was held at Urban Farmer. Over fizzy drinks (and wine from La Crema), good conversation, and delicious food, we kicked things off in style.

Minted hosted the event, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect partnership. Everything grew out of the gorgeous invitations we chose from their collection, including the most magical, show stopping flower arrangements by the talented Anna Mara. Minted handled all the thoughtful touches, like the framed photos of attendees with their mothers wrapped in Minted’s new line of fabric.

Each piece of the brunch hinted at what’s to come, from the quintessentially Portland vibe of Urban Farmer to the gorgeous decor to the swag bags. Our Minted totes held:

It was such a fun morning and we’re so excited that we finally get to share our news with you! In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more details about what you can expect from the conference, when you can purchase tickets, and who our awesome workshop leaders are. We’re beyond thrilled with the incredible community that’s already joined us around our event, and we can’t wait to welcome you to The Hello Sessions!
