Lamps Plus Giveaway in Radiant Orchid

Pantone Radiant Orchid Lamps Plus Giveaway | Frock Files

Every year, I get a kick out of Pantone’s announcement about their color of the year, and this year I’m especially excited about their selection: Radiant Orchid! To help you kick of 2014 in a Pantone perfect way, I’ve partnered with Lamps Plus to give away one of the Radiant Orchid lamps from their Color Plus Lighting Collection.

On a personal note, I think that our Lamps Plus lamp has actually helped stave off the slump I felt last year during these very short days. We live in new construction with no overhead lights in the bedrooms or living room. We put our Lamps Plus lamp in the corner living room and — voila! — it went from cavernous to cozy. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it has made all the difference in the world for my mood. When it gets dark at 4pm, I actually look forward to turning on the lights and getting cozy with a hot cup of tea.

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment about your favorite room in your home (and why!), and follow Lamps Plus on Twitter and Instagram. The winner will be announced this Wednesday, December 18th on my Facebook page, and contacted directly by email. Lamps must be ordered by December 31, 2013. Sorry, the drawing is only open to US residents 18 and over.

Interior Inspiration: Springtime Brights!

Frock Files: Bright Interiors for Spring

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

February is almost over! That fact alone cheers me to no end. February was actually a pretty fabulous month, but it’s also been one full of snow storms and grey days. I know March is a tease — the first time I came to Boston it was March and snowy. This confused me to no end, and in many ways, it tricks me again every year.

But no matter! This year I’m going to make it springtime by bringing lots of color indoors. I’m inspired by all these lovely images that I found on Pinterest. I’m also getting a lot of inspiration by working with Monica Lee over at Smart Creative Women on a couple of projects that we have in the works. Starting today, I’ll be popping over to her blog every once in awhile to share some colorful fun. Won’t you join us?

Caravan Shoppe Giveaway!

Caravan Shoppe is so many things that I love. It’s the brainchild of Fifth & Hazel‘s Melanie Burk, and Ollibird‘s Mike and Alma Loveland — all of whom are graphic designers I admire and have great respect for. On top of that awesomeness, my dear friend, the great writer Meg Conley of Meg in Progress, acts as Caravan’s chief copywriter. It’s kind of like when Target announced they were teaming with Neiman Marcus for the holidays, only better (and not just for a limited time).

Since I’m in the decorating stage of putting my office together, I’m trying to collect a bunch of artwork that I love but within the confines of a pretty small budget. Buying furniture was expensive, yo! So I’m pretty gleeful about Caravan Shoppe’s pairing of gorgeous artwork at cost-conscious prices, with pieces topping out at $8 a pop. No, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you; that’s less than the price of a cappuccino and a croissant.

All the pieces come to you at digital files, and it’s then up to you to send the file off to your favorite printer. While this might sound like a catch, it isn’t — by cutting out the middleman, these fine folks are saving you shipping and handling costs. Plus that, you’ll have your printed file in your hands faster. I also like to think of it as an opportunity to support a local printing business.

Caravan Shoppe is generously offering you, my dear readers, a 20% discount with coupon code welovefrock. On top of that, one lucky reader will win a $30 gift card to use on any of the happy artwork in the shop. To enter, just leave a little note in the comment section with the three sentence story of your first crush. You know, because I’m nosy.

Visit the shop(pe) over at CaravanShoppe.com. You can also find them on Twitter @caravanshoppe and on Facebook.

Birds of a Feather

Bird Pillows at Three Price Points

Splurge / Indulge / Save

So, a confession: I really don’t like birds. When I was on a field trip as a little girl, a flock of pigeons came at me, grabbed my sandwich, and ran away with it. I think that was the start of it.

But for some reason, I always find myself drawn to illustrations of birds — especially on fabric. My shower curtain is a toile and bird design. I’m constantly buying dresses with birds on them. And now, as we work on decorating my office, the new couch is crying out for flock of bird-themed throw pillows. While I love all three of these, at $15 the last one is too good a deal to pass up. Would any of these land on your couch?

Bright Lights on Kirsten Nieman of Restored Style

Kirsten Nieman runs the impeccable decor blog Restored Style, where she collects her favorite things, documents her adventures in creating a home, and offers design services. When you visit Restored Style, you’ll see that Kirsten has a talent for mixing classic style with pieces that hint at the industrial, all while incorporating accessories with a sense of whimsy. The resulting spaces are warm and inviting — places I’d love to call my own. In fact, Kirsten is so good that she’s even welcomed the folks of Young House Love into her home on a recent visit to the City of Roses.

Kirsten and her husband restored a gorgeous bungalow in Portland, and they’re currently on the hunt for a new home in a different neighborhood. I’m literally at the edge of my seat, waiting to find out where they’ll land next!

What do you do for a living? I’m a PR/Marketing gal at a local Portland agency during the day, and a blogger at www.restoredstyle.com by night.

Places you’ve lived: I’ve lived in Portland, Ore. my whole life (except for the four years I spent in Eugene for college) and I plan on staying here forever. I absolutely adore this city!

The place you’d most like to visit: Europe. I really can’t believe I have yet to travel across the pond. Some day…soon!

Your favorite indulgence: Sitting down with a good book, a delicious latte, and silence.

The best advice you’ve ever received: I feel lucky that I’ve been around some amazing women over the years, and each of them have shared some really great advice with me. Here are a few of my favorites!

  • Be brief, but be brilliant.
  • Behind every successful woman is herself.
  • Do what makes you happy. If you are truly passionate about your career, good things will happen!

My Moleskine planner – I never leave home without it

Jo Malone Wild Bluebell Cologne: My favorite scent.

The Bakers Twine: I use this for so many things!

These pants from J. Crew are comfortable, stretchy and flattering. The best combo for pants!

Rifle Paper Co. 2013 calendar

Crate + Barrel Bamboo Tea Bag Box: I love this tea box – it’s so fun to pull out when guests are over.

Anthropologie Capri Blue Jar Candle: The best smelling candle, ever.

My KitchenAid mixer – no kitchen is complete without one of these bad boys.

My Kate Spade gold wallet — practical but cute!

Thank you, Kirsten! Be sure to check out more of Kirsten’s great style picks at Restored Style. But beware, you may drool on your keyboard while checking out her beautiful bungalow!
