Dress Up, Dress Down Summer Dresses

I can’t tell you how happy I am that the weather has finally warmed up and I don’t have to look at my jeans again for a good, long while. My closet is pretty well stocked with frocks for the summertime, but I know that I could quickly get tired of them if I keep wearing them the same way.

That’s why I love having a few styling options in mind to fancy up or make casual my dress-filled wardrobe this summer. So when Marigold invited me to participate in the Summer of No Pants series, it was a perfect opportunity to sit down and really think about what I have on hand to keep my current favorite dress fresh!

East Coast Meets West Coast + A Giveaway

Frock Files | Pacific Northwest Style

I love the hipster vibe of the Pacific Northwest, but after several attempts I realized that I couldn’t fully pull it off. It’s the same in every city I’ve lived in; I pull from it what makes me happy and leave the rest behind. But living in the Pacific Northwest did give me the chance to put a little more whimsy into my wardrobe.

My lovely friend, the very talented Meghann Street, took these photos while we were in Portland last month. I love the way she makes the world look soft and glowy, which is just what the Pacific Northwest is like in my mind.

This outfit is a melding of my West and East Coast tastes — the skirt is a little preppy (Boston), but my French bulldog top is definitely the influence of hipster fun (Portland). And the Ace Hotel was the perfect place for us to play.

It’s Pajama Weekend!

Friends, we’ve made it! And by “it” I don’t just mean the holidays. Yep, the universe is still in-tact.

This, the weekend before Christmas, is meant to be spent lounging around, wrapping those last gifts, eating pancakes, and drinking hot chocolate (as a delivery system for marshmallows, right?). In honor of this cozy period, I’ve chosen some of my favorite pajama pieces. Okay, so most days I can’t tear myself away to change out of my pajamas til noon anyway. Doesn’t that just mean they’re worth investing in?

I hope your weekend is merry and full of mirth. Are any of you braving the malls? I’m sending you lots of luck for great parking spaces.

A Sunday Kind of Love

{a la}

Sundays are my favorite day of the week for lots of reasons. I love brunch. I love the fat edition of the New York Times. I love sitting down to plan out meals for the rest of the week (although I don’t like going to the grocery store on Sundays, when all the crazies are there). That’s why I’ve decided to begin sharing some of my favorite things from the week with you on Sundays — so you’ll have something good to read, a few new cooking ideas, and maybe some inspiration before a new week begins. Here are my discoveries of the week:

Check out what you can do with 330 square feet. Living large has never really appealed to me, but living small really does. Maybe not this small, but I’m kind of enamored with the idea of packing this much style into such a teensy flat.

Banana splits for breakfast? Yes, please. I’m getting a little tired of my berry/spinach/almond milk smoothie in the mornings, so I think it’s time to mix it up with this luscious (and healthy!) option.

This video made me cry happy tears. Okay, so maybe I’m a little hormonal. But still, this is one of the more thoughtful things I’ve ever seen.

Did you know that I was a guest over at Bring Joy this past week? You’ll see that I’m a little obsessed with autumn fashion, as it’s both here and there. Yesterday morning, I saw an orange leaf fluttering and got excited about it until I realized it was a butterfly. Hmmph. Still summer.

Oh, Anthropologie! You shouldn’t have. (Then again, it’s about time.)

Delicious & simple. Mr. J requested something with shrimp this week, so I hunted down this super easy recipe. Don’t skip the cashews; they really make the dish.

And have you heard the latest cooking craze involves growing your own mold as a seasoning? I’m not sure what to think about that either. Check out the article — and then please do share your thoughts!

And, as always, thanks so much for your friendship and support. Happy Sunday!
