If you’re anything like me, you’ll buy about twenty pairs of shoes this season and end up wearing, oh, two of those over and over and over. To avoid spending money on shoes you don’t need and won’t wear (so that you can spend it on other things, like more dresses!), I’ve narrowed it down to these five basic shoes, from which you can build on.
Black pumps. No shoe is more classic than a black pointy-heeled pump. You can wear them with a suit, but you can also pair them with jeans for an evening out, or with a dark dress for work-to-party nights (which are so prevalent over the holiday season). Since this shoe is a staple item, look for something in leatherthe shoe will last longer and hold up to more use. On top of that, you’ll want something that fits just the way you want it, and believe me, finding the perfect black pump is no easy feat (no pun intended!). Look for something that doesn’t cut too high up on your foot. The tiniest bit of toe clevage is usually quite flattering.
Flip flops. Nothing screams summer better than a pair of flip flops. Finding a pair that you can actually wear out of the house (or off of the beach) can be a bit trickier, though. Look for something with a thin sole and either brown leather or a subtle metallic strap, which you’ll be able to wear with practically anything.
Strappy sandals. For events like weddings, reunions, or parties where you need to dress up, it’s always good to have a pair of strappy sandals handy. If you can walk in them, look for something with a stiletto heel, which will elongate the leg. Otherwise, find something with a shorter or kitten heel. Black is always a good option for strappy sandals, to pair with your little black party dress. If you don’t often wear black, a neutral like brown leather will complement other neutrals like blues, beige, white, pink, or green.
Boots. A great pair of leather boots will never fail in the months when it’s too cold for sandals and thin sneakers…and you may even find yourself wanting to wear them when it’s warm enough not to anymore! Again, look for natural materials, since having a pair of boots fall apart mid-season is never desirable, and because shoe repair shops have an easier time replacing parts for well-constructed shoes.Love Happens release
