This marks the third installment of the Bookmarked series, which is helping me get to my goal of reading one new book each month. Last month’s book was The Goldfinch, which was an epic read! Not only does it spin you through the life of the main character, Theo, but the book itself is massive, at 784 pages.
But you know, I think I needed to be absorbed into that story to get through the dark storminess of February here. And since the weather forecasters just informed us that March typically sees another 8 inches of snow, I’ll need the imaginary transportation of this next pick as well!
My book pick for March: Life After Life
I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of parallel universes — the kind of choose-your-own-adventure story that talks about what may have happened if a character had made a different choice. In Life After Life, Kate Atkinson does just that with her main character, Ursula, who is born in 1910 and reborn many times, each time into the same family. What would happen if you lived in a Groundhog Day kind of life at the early part of the 20th Century?
My sister recommended this book and I’ve been dying to read it ever since. So thank you, Julie, for the suggestion!
P.S. I also loved Sliding Doors which includes this loop type of storyline. An oldie but a goodie.
