It’s here! Around these parts, this week has affectionately come to be known as “Alt Summit Week” because it’s a frenzy of packing and getting things ready for the time I’ll be gone.
As the conference has drawn nearer, I’ve had great fun thinking about fashion in a way that I haven’t had the opportunity to for awhile. When I lived in London, I quickly realized that I had the freedom to experiment with my clothes in a way that I never would have in Honolulu. No matter how crazily I paired things or styled my hair and makeup, I was bound to be outdone by someone else. I went from that environment to the preppy, sleek style of Boston, then to the land of flannel shirts, American Apparel hoodies, and Chuck Taylors — Portland, Oregon. And since I work at home now, here in the woods on the North Shore of Massachusetts, I’m usually not thinking much about what I’m wearing.
So getting ready for Alt has been a bit of a thrill. Those rusty fashion wheels got turning — in fact, maybe they got just a bit too lubricated because suddenly every bright bobble became a justified purchase. In the end, I’ve packed several dresses, a couple of sweaters, a pair of jeans, two pairs of boots, two pairs of heels, and three purses. Oh, and a bunch of earrings, a couple of necklaces, and several scarves. And tights, tights, tights. I have no idea what I would do if this conference lasted more than three days!
I can’t wait to go, learn, witness some awesomeness, take pictures, take notes, make friends, and then bring everything back to share with you. And if you’re going to Alt Summit, please stop me and say hello!
