Thawing Out

Dress / Tights / Coat / Gloves / Boots

Winter in New England is no joke. Last week, after a big snow storm, the temperatures dipped into the single digits. I’m sure you hearty Midwesterners are laughing right now, used as you are to temps in the negatives. But for a Hawaii girl, the winter is always a shock to the system. This outfit is basically what I live in right now, from late sun up to early sun down and beyond. Both James and I are aching for a getaway; one in which I can change out of my sweater dresses and into something more like this:

Dress / Sunglasses / Tote / Swimsuit / Flip Flops (or, for all you Hawaii people: slippers.)

We spent the weekend searching for just the right winter escape, and I couldn’t help but check out all of the fashion emerging for spring break. So after I turn into an icicle at Alt in a couple of weeks, we’ll head to a yet-unknown tropical destination to thaw out in the sunshine. Are you headed anywhere warm before spring hits? I’d love to hear about your plans — and any recommendations you might have. On our wish list: within 5 hours (flying), warm weather, and a beach.

  1. Are you going from New England or from SLC? If the latter, the Mayan Riviera is nice for an all inclusive type vacation.

  2. Well, I guess technically I’m not a true midwesterner since I spent the first 6 years of my life in the South (and that southern blood runs thick) but I’ve been here ever since and no, I’ve NEVER gotten used to single or negative digits! It’s horrendous! 30 degrees is the lowest I can stand. The rest of the time I’m cussing in my head whenever I leave the house! Thankfully, my hubby and I are headed to Costa Rica on Saturday morning! Eeeeek! I can’t wait! We haven’t been on a trip together in a couple years due to some baby making so this is long overdue. Can’t wait to thaw out in the sun!

  3. Love those striped gloves with the bow! How fun that you are planning a tropical getaway! We are actually planning a trip to eastern Oregon sometime in the next month to relax and play in the snow. The girls want to try skiing which should be interesting. :)

  4. A tropical getaway does sound really nice right about now, and I don’t even live in a cold climate! (Good thing we’ve got Oahu booked for Febraury!) I’ve never been, but I’ve heard great things about Turks and Caicos. Let’s hope you get something on the books to help break up that winter of yours, and so you can wear that pretty outfit above.

  5. Unfortunately we aren’t heading anywhere hot until June, when it’ll already be hot in Chicago. Womp, womp. I hope this winter is short. I really need it to warm up soon!

  6. Love the black vintage swimsuit – gorgeous! Mel x
