I’ve just returned from a long weekend in London, where I was brought back to my fashion roots — and I remembered what it’s like to dress with a little bit of creativity. This dress, the Grunge Bohemian by Free People, is just the kind of thing that I’d find someone wearing on the tube. Hopefully, though, they’d be wearing better shoes. These remind me of the pilgrims a little, which is good for Thanksgiving but not much else…

Sometimes a girl just wants to feel cozy, and I think this dress handles that beautifully. Although it’s not exactly chic, I love the chunky knit of this dress by Triple 5 Soul. With a thermal long sleeved tee underneath, thick tights, and a coat, you could totally brave the weather in this one. Or stay home and drink hot cocoa. I’d opt for the latter.

It would also be great for traveling, since it won’t wrinkle. Since I’ve got travel on my mind, I’m pairing it not with a coat, or a pair of boots, but this weekender bag from Urban Outfitters. Bon voyage!

I’ve actually posted about the Bella Jacket from J.Crew twice before. Once it was the wool jacket, and once the full length coat. But I have to post about it again, because I’ve just received my very own Bella in the mail today, in deep chocolate velvet, and I’m even more in love with it now!

I think this beautiful shade of brown goes really well with the bright blue of this dress by Lotta Stensson.

Don’t forget to keep your toes toasty! I love these, which are city chic. I will wear them to Spitalfield’s Market this Sunday while browsing through the treasures there…

So I clicked on over to Etsy a little earlier this evening and found Wildwear’s shop, with this kimono-inspired faux wrap dress, called the Fawnhawk Folly.

Okay, so this happy sunbather obviously isn’t wearing this in any state where it’s cold, but you know my theory on that: layers are the answer to wearing frocks in the fall! Tights! Jackets! Like this one, by J.Crew (isn’t this the cutest model ever?):

And what would a fall frock be without a pair of boots? A lady must have some selection in her wardrobe, after all. These would fall under the “comfy black-ish pair” category. I love the ribbon detail on it, which makes it just a little bit more girly.

I’ll admit it: I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to packing for trips. I travel so often that you would think I’d have stopped by now, but I haven’t. Every time there’s a trip on the horizon, I find myself gazing out of windows and staying awake at night thinking about what clothes I’ll pack, what shoes I’ll bring, and what I’ll wear on the plane. That last factor, of what to wear on the plane, is at the top of my list. Since airplanes are notoriously too cold, too hot, uncomfortable, cramped, and generally horrible, I like to prepare for anything. While I refuse to wear my pajamas on the plane (or anywhere outside of my apartment, for that matter), I do dress for comfort.
For this trip to London, I’ve decided on this dress by Splendid. The company does wonderful, simple designs made mostly of Modal, which is soft and easy to travel in. Like jersey, it can be rolled in a ball, and although it will come out wrinkled, it has enough weight to unwrinkle itself over the course of a few hours.

Of course, I will wear it with a pair of tights and pack a pair of socks, just in case. I’d also bring a jacket and wear these boots — the Frye Annie Harness Boot — to keep my toes toasty all the way across the pond.

What I love best about these boots is that they’re mid calf, which is really hard to find — particularly when you’re petite! Little girls unite!
